On behalf of our Parish School's 291 students,
the Parish Community welcomes you to the school's parish web page.

The Parish School is one the central ministries of the Parish Community, where the highest priority is placed on ensuring the continued vitality and availability of Catholic education to all who seriously seek it.  To support our efforts, and to give the lasting gift of a Catholic education to a deserving child, please consider a gift in support of our Annual Fund, renamed this year the "Annual Appeal."

Our Parish School is currently full, but we invite you to join our waiting list (see below) to obtain preference in the event of openings.  Openings most commonly arise in the summer months in the middle grades.

There is a reason our school is full.

In addition to its manifestly Catholic identity, the Parish School emphasizes socio-ecnomic diversity, academic rigor, and is the direct beneficiary of one of the finest parish-based music programs in the United States.

For more information, please read on. . . .

Welcome new Parish School principal Mrs. Frances "Fran"  Wise, last year a teacher of English literature at Cristo Rey High School, and much-praised by her enthusiastic students there.  Welcome Mrs. Wise!

Welcome new school families!  From our 30 kindergartners to our 38 8th graders, and all grades in between (and preschool too), we this year welcome (i) new families from all over the nation and world just arrived in Sacramento, (ii) long-time local families entering Catholic education for the first time, and (iii) transfers from other private and parochial schools.

Whether you've come to us for our commitment to access for all, or for our focal commitment to ensuring that our parish school is demonstrably Catholic, or for our unparalleled music program (and full symphony orchestra!), or the excellence of our academic programs, or for the experience of teaching Sisters in the classroom, Welcome!

110 schoolyears!  The education apostolate of St. Peter and All Hallows have a long and noble history of achievement, sending graduates to Jesuit High School, Christian Brothers High School, St. Francis High School, and now to Cristo Rey High School.  Our graduates have long been college-bound too: USF, Santa Clara, St. Mary's, California State University, University of California, Notre Dame de Namur University, Harvard, Grinnell, University of San Diego, and multiple other campuses.  Our graduates are physicians, attorneys, teachers, professors, brokers, business owners, and a range of other professions.

We applaud diversity!  At a parent meeting, you may find a physician, a day laborer, a housekeeper, an attorney, an information technology professional, an active duty servicemember, a single mother, a grandparent, speakers of English, speakers of Spanish, and speakers of Vietnamese, Hindi and Hmong.

Living the Gospel!  We prepare our children for a complex world through Gospel values lived and learned, through a cherished tradition of economic and social diversity, and through a commitment to Catholic education that is, in a word, "total."

Civility counts!  Included in the curriculum at the Parish School are studies of Washington's Rules of Civility, downloadable here (Modern English) or here (period English).   In the Moot Court and Public Presentation Program, this year's 8th graders will also be studying William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice, Twelfth Night, and MacBeth.

Because the Parish School of John Paul II descends directly from the formerly separate education apostolates of All Hallows Parish and St. Peter Parish, if you are an alumnus/a of either school, you are an alumnus/a of John Paul II.  John Paul II School, located on the All Hallows Parish School site, educates with specific commitments to (1) access for all and (2) excellence in all programs.

Ensuring access, John Paul II School assesses tuition on a sliding scale for those parish families meeting certain income criteria.

Ensuring excellence, John Paul II School stresses lower-grade small class size, individual attention, and full student participation in school and parish musical arts.  Advanced programs are offered.  As to music and arts, John Paul II is one of the very few schools with a staff choir-master and choir-mistress, and full music curriculum.  Indeed, John Paul II students perform with the All Hallows Symphony Orchestra, including in November 2007 at the Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento.  John Paul II also offers a full range of inter-scholastic sports (a Catholic school tradition).

Interested in enrolling your child, and would like tuition assistance?  Please complete the 2008-2009 Parish Tuition Assistance Form, and submit it via hand to the parish school office (5700 13th Avenue), the Cristo Rey High School office (6200 McMahon Drive), or to the parish office (5500 13th Avenue).  For more information, please contact parish school principal , or parish tuition assistance coordinator, .

The Parishioner Tuition Program assesses your family's tuition payment based upon annual family income, consistent with the parish's policy to make a Catholic education available to all who seek it.  Factors include income, family size, employment stability, and other special needs of the family.  The Parish Tuition Program is open to active parishioners (you may register online), siblings of Cristo Rey High School students, and (if space is available) parishioners of parishes without schools.  Eligibility for partipation in the Parish Tuition Program is re-evaluated at the end of each schoolyear.

Participating families have a service hours requirement that can be fulfilled in any of a number of ways: from landscaping to concert docent to playground aide to gardening to any of a number activities benefiting the school and parish community.  (See Parish Directory for a list of ministries.)  These hours are in addition to the service hours required for parish school families.

Prior to enrollment, all families have a pastoral visit with the pastor and principal.  The school will schedule this with you.  Should you be considering enrolling your child in our parish school, we invite you to do so as far in advance as possible:   as the schoolyear starts, there are usually no openings in the upper grades, and limited openings in some lower grades.  Again, please register early.  At this time, there are no openings in any grades.  Applications, however, continue to be accepted and will be added to our waiting list in the order received.

For general information about the school, please see the parish school's website, www.johnpauliischool.com

We are delighted that you are considering joining our parish and school family!
